Lien Baelde is a contemporary dance Artist. After training in jazz, ballet and competition dancing in Bruges, she began her professional dance education at Havo voor Muziek en Dans (CODARTS) in Rotterdam. Alongside learning repertoire from Batsheva dance company, she had the opportunity to take part in the choreographic research of Neel Verdoorn and Keith Derrick Randolph. During her education, Lien has been experimenting with creating her own work within the school context. Le Printemps (2010) was her first solo presented at Isala Theatre in Rotterdam.
Having completed two years of higher education, she decided to enroll in AHK Amsterdam School of Arts, in the Modern Theatre Dance department, where she became experienced in a vast variety of techniques in the contemporary field ( Liat Waysbort, Katie Duck, Vivianne Rodrigues de Brito). While in her training years she took part in a number of workshops and projects, within the school context and on a professional level (Club Guy and Roni, Emio Greco,Rosas, Batsheva Dance Company) and danced creations of many interesting choreographers. (Nicole Beutler, Didy Veldman, Judith Sanchez Ruiz)
Lien has experimented choreographic creation within the school context. In 2015 she had the chance to present her work in Frascati as part of the collective creation ‘Are you sure, it was here’ with her fellow classmates.
In 2013 she joined the creation Familie Album by Franziska Menge which was presented in Belgrade at the Fist09 Festival. There she received the award for most outstanding performer.
During her final year of training at AHK, she was invited for 4 months in Jeruzalem as an apprentice for Lior Lev’s Jeruzalem Dance Theatre, here she took the opportunity to take part in numerous workshops by Batsheva Dance Company and Vertigo, as well as get in touch with the local dance scene.Following this project she was invited by Giorgia Nardin to take part in her latest creation, for which she performed a site specific short piece as part of Bmotion Festival 2015 (Bassano del Grappa). Giorgia Nardin her new work ‘Season” premiered on the 17th of March at K3- Zentrum fur Choreographie Tanzplan Hamburg (Kampnagel) and will be touring during the summer of 2016 in Italy.
Lien received her bachelor diploma on 25 June 2016.
Currently she is involved in several dance project with Liat Waysbort/Bitter Sweet Love and Eileen Mcclory/ Off the rails company. Lien enjoys a good physical challenge and is always up for something new. She combines her creative mind with her flexible body to fully engage in research and new works.
Lien occasionally holds classes in ballet, contemporary techniques ( cunningham/floorwork) for beginners and semi-professionals in Bruges.
